Writing this summery sorbet post in pouring November-like rain feels a bit schizophrenic, but the calendar says August damn it, (Janet) and I am assuming it isn’t necessarily raining where you are. Or will be. Or maybe, like me, you think that there is nothing better on a rainy summer day than eating ice cream and listening to the thunder.
As a kid my mum would give us half a melon with maple syrup as a treat and it is still one of my favourite refreshers in the summer. Iced melon drizzled with maple syrup and a pinch of salt. My kids love it too, my youngest usually licks of all maple syrup then claims I forgot to put it on so she can have more.
At first I played around with drizzling the sorbet with maple syrup, but after a little tweaks and twists it worked out really well adding the maple syrup instead of the usual caster sugar in the recipe since it brings out the heady, floral taste of the melon.
